Through a press release, Eurosport has announced the extention of its multiplatform rights for elite-level championships organised by European Athletics.
The European-wide agreement, acquired from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), covers a series of top athletics events over the next four years. Kicking off with the 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam from July 6-10, the agreement also includes the 2017 and 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships, as well as the 2017, 2018 and 2019 European Athletics Team Championships.
“Eurosport has firmly established itself as the destination of choice for fans of Olympic sports on a year-round basis,” Eurosport Chief Executive Officer Peter Hutton said. “This deal demonstrates our commitment to athletics and the Olympic movement as we look forward to beginning our coverage of the Olympic Games across Europe in two years’ time.”
Coverage of this year’s European Athletics Championships will be enhanced by triple jump legend Jonathan Edwards, who has been signed as Eurosport’s Lead Presenter to head up the channel’s flagship programming from 2016, including the Olympic Games from 2018.
